On Fermi acceleration

We analyze the energy transfer from slow to fast degrees of freedom in slow-fast Hamiltonian systems. We present numerical results and heuristic models for this process and formulate a conjecture describing the role of ergodicity breaking in convergence of the slow-fast dynamics to statistical equilibrium.
